The Library by the river

Located in one of Lisbon’s most important cultural and touristic routes, near the Coach Museum, MAAT, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos and the Belém Cultural Centre, with a must stop at the Belém “pastéis de nata” (Portuguese custard tarts), the Belém Library has been housed in the Marquês de Angeja Palace  since 1965. An 18th century building, this Palace was once the Natural History Museum, and later served as a residence for the Naval Academy students.

Here you can read with a view to the Tagus, in lit filled spacious rooms. And in the garden the Corações com Coroa Association manages the CCC Café, were you can enjoy a delicious brunch.

For those keen on feminist movements or related issues, we suggest that you come and explore our specialised collection by Ana Castro Osório, with over 1,700 titles on these topics.

Finally, imagine a library where you can find dogs helping in literacy processes with children. But stop imagining and come and see for yourself the Belém Library.
