Portuguese for Foreigners
The Lisbon Libraries develop learning activities of Portuguese for foreigners, with the aim of promoting the acquisition of basic vocabulary and grammar skills, thus promoting a smoother social, economic and professional integration.
In a non-formal approach, these activities rely mainly on speaking and sharing of information in a relaxed environment, through 4 distinct yet complementary levels:
Beginner Level (A1)
This level will include A1 level grammatical and lexical content following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). This course does not provide literacy classes as it is aimed at participants with basic reading and writing skills in their mother language, other than Portuguese.
Elementary Level (A2)
This level is for people who have previously attended a Portuguese as a foreign language beginner course and would like to increase their knowledge of the Portuguese language, in an informal setting. It will include A2 level grammatical and lexical content following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Intermediate level (B1)
This level is for people who already have a basic knowledge of the Portuguese language and would like to improve mainly their speaking but also their writing skills, in an informal setting. It will cover grammatical and lexical areas at B1 level following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Conversation
This level is for people who have a basic or intermediate knowledge of Portuguese as a foreign language and would like to improve their speaking skills, in an informal setting. It will include content that already presupposes a basic knowledge of the language, minimum A2 or intermediate B1 level of Portuguese as a foreign language.
