A journey of discovery
The Orlando Ribeiro Library, in Solar da Nora, right in the historical centre of Telheiras, allows us a glimpse of the first moments of this parish, which was initially a hamlet. Inaugurated in 2003, the library pays tribute to the geographer, who during the oppression turned his attention to showing the importance of diversity.
Inspired by him, who was also known for his countryside diaries, his vast photograph collection and his love for music, we can find on the bookshelves of this library a good collection of travel and geography books, photography books, as well as the delight of any music lover: the sound library service, with a unique catalogue of 22.000 CD’s and DVD’s of all music categories.
Pay attention to the details of the building: see how it merges modernity and memory, as for example the covered bridge which links the Manor type construction and the modern building, or the visual effect of including the water wheel and the well’s machinery in the library hall, or the 18th century tile panels, or the sculpture features on the stonework, or the remnants of the frescoes. On the terrace of the library, there is a wonderful tile panel entitled “Festa” (feast) by the illustrator Maria Keil.
