Portuguese for Foreigners
A course of action that supports language, culture, creativity and intergenerationality.
The goal is to provide adult foreigners with basic vocabulary and grammar skills at level A1 through non-formal education. It will focus on promoting the social, economic and professional integration of those whose first language is not Portuguese.
It is designed for adult immigrants, preferably residents in Portugal, with basic, intermediate or advanced Portuguese language skills, who seek to improve their oral fluency and acquire a deeper understanding of the local culture, in order to facilitate integration into Portuguese society.
Committed to providing a welcoming and inspiring environment that celebrates cultural diversity, it offers practical, contextualised Portuguese language teaching.
Participants gain confidence in learning the grammar of the language and in oral communication through a combination of language learning, cultural activities, mindfulness techniques and a creative approach to stories and experiences.
The “Portuguese for Foreigners” course is an interactive programme, available online and in person, with multimedia resources. It follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and includes two components:
Self-learning (Moodle), a study experience designed for independent and autonomous learning through the E-learning platform: https://formacao.cm-lisboa.pt
Mediated teaching-learning, a collaborative distance learning space, assisted by a tutor. It is held twice a week on Microsoft Teams.
The Programme is supported by a booklet ‒ Language Learning Notebook, which will soon be available to download.
